Hey man, your youtube vids look like a tour of a lot of my metal past in the 80’s. I’d just like to take a sec to turn you on to one it looks like you may have missed. Realm was a band out of Milwaukee, WI Good stuff, technical and awesome. Up there with Nevermore (Sanctuary back then…) as one of my metal idols. Here’s a link with info.

Many of those vids are from TA Verns, a crappy club whos soundboard was aweful. Realm was better live than recorded, but the vids don’t do that justice.
Here’s one off the Endless War album (I see you like the song ;) )
Hope you dig it!

Just came across your blog while doing some nostalgia Google searches. I starting with Antic Hay (looking for the lyrics to Spring), which led me to Unicorn Records, which led me to you. I actually saw Antic Hay perform in front of a capacity crowd of about 12 people at Drew’s original Unicorn Records store. He was moving to a new place a half-mile away, and threw a “getting out of the ghetto” party. Basically a few friends of Drew’s coming over to drink and listen to amazing music.
And since you knew Drew you’ll appreciate this story: I used to work at Visions Bar in Portsmouth and they’d have a talent competition once in a while with the winner decided by the crowd. It was close to Unicorn, and one time Drew came in to play. There were maybe four other bands that night doing country and pop/rock, and they all brought all of their friends to make lots of noise so they could win the contest. So it was a big crowd of people into that kind of music. Then Drew walked up all by himself, plugged in his guitar, and ripped out Lou Reed’s “Kill Your Sons”. I’m not sure what was better – hearing that song that night, or seeing the reaction of the stunned crowd.
Good times.

I loved Unicorn and Drew. I was in his band for a while with Anthony on guitar. You and I probably crossed paths more than once. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi there Metal Files,
My name is Brian Murray and I’m one of the tasting room managers over at Jester King Brewery, in Austin, TX. I came across your Metal blog and would like to cordially invite you to our upcoming DOOM FORGE DAY. We’re extremely excited to bring this event on Saturday February 1st, 2020 at Noon. Doom Forge Day will be an event most brutal, where we celebrate all things metal. The highlight will be the release of a few of our favorite Dark Beer releases we make on site, along with some super dark guest beers.
Also, we’ll be featuring some awesome local Metal bands. So far we have Communion, Thunder Kief & Bridge Farmers confirmed, with more on the way. We’ll also have metal face paint taking place, and are working on getting a Tattoo artist onsite as well.
We feel this event would be right up your alley, and would love to have you stop by to check it out. Let me know if you have any questions. I included my email below if you’d like to get in touch.
Cheers,
Brian Murray
