Top 25 metal bands
This is a difficult list, really. My number 1 will never change. Things below it could and you’ll notice how picky I am about certain eras of each band.
- Iron Maiden (80-88 and A Matter Of Life And Death)
- Warlord
- Fates Warning (Arch era)
- Yngwie Malmsteen
- Megadeth (first 2 albums)
- Overkill (first 2 albums)
- Sacred Rite
- WASP
- Lizzy Borden
- King Diamond (up to and including The Eye)
- Mercyful Fate (up to and including In The Shadows)
- Anthrax (first 3 albums)
- Chastain (up to and including Voice of the Cult)
- Black Sabbath (up to and including Dehumanizer)
- Arsis
- Death
- Tiamat (up to and including Wildhoney)
- Loudness (up to and including Hurricane Eyes)
- Celtic Frost
- Omen (up to and including The Curse)
- Obsession (first 2 LPs only)
- Motorhead (up to and including 1916)
- Metal Church (up to and including Hanging In The Balance)
- Sanctuary
- Triumph
Geeez, there’s so many more I want to list! Ugh.
Celtic Frost used to be high on my list until “Cold Lake”, their last album was good though. I used to love King Diamond’s albums, but his solo stuff hasn’t aged as well as Mercyful Fate’s albums from their first run. I used to love Sanctuary, but now their albums are not as good as I remember them being years ago. Never heard Warlord, but know of them. Yngwie Malmsteen plays with all of the passion and emotion of someone putting on their socks. Triumph are maybe the third best trio to come out of Canada behind Rush and Exciter’s first line-up. Of course that might be the only three Canadian hard rock/metal trios I can think of though.
