black_sabbath_bs1This album is the foundation of modern metal.  I first heard it around 1975.  Evil.  Dark.  Sloppy.  Brilliant.  Other than NIB it’s perfect.  Even though I prefer the Dio era to Ozzy’s, this is pretty much my favorite Sabbath album.

Good work guys.  Too bad they can’t write like this anymore.

  1. Best album ever! I can spin this any day of the week and I never tire of it. Ozzy’s vocals were spot on with this album. The musicianship may be a bit sloppy but it is so free form in so many places that I think that makes up for it. I love the way Tony double tracks his guitar solos. There is so much going on in all the solo spots that is just sets me in awe. Brilliant piece of heavy metal!
