This song still gets to me.  Every once in a while a band ends an album perfectly and this is one of those times.  The last 35 seconds of this has been giving me goosebumps for over 20 years now.

  1. One of my metal buddies claims that “this is/was one of the best power metal lineup(s) ever recorded!”

I tend to agree as well.

Of course most KING DIAMOND (and M. FATE) albums rock, but “Abigail” is just a freakin’ classic. I like “Them” too but it’s not quite as good as it’s predecessor IMO.

I was lucky enough to interview King Diamond (wait til’ ya’ read this) as I even asked him about his sex life and or girlfriend(s) at the time! ha ha…..I was young (and fearless too perhaps).

The show, at Bogarts in Cinci, OHIO was flawless and amazing in all aspects. Mickey Dee just killed it in this band. I still do not like him in MOTORHEAD as well as this period. Of course he is more than capable of playing any style and fitting in but his just fits his style better for me.

I got to see them again on “Them” tour and TROUBLE opened for them. What a lineup! Come to think of it, I am not sure which tour they opened for them. Maybe someone reading this can clarify?

*I remember getting backstage and King was in the process of taking off his makeup and coming down after the show. Big no-no, as I heard that he wants to be ALONE during that come down period and usually sits in there for up to an hour before he comes out and returns to “normal” and or wants to talk to fans, journalists, annoying fanzine editors etc! ;)

So I got the hell outta’ dodge for a bit until he became the one known as Kim Bendix Petersen again!

BTW I was a little disappointed by their remastered version which includes a DVD + show. CD was fine, but I was so psyched for the concert footage, but it was recorded crappy (ala’ Cliff Em’ All style).

I would pay some big time buck$ for a live 5.1 recording/mix of this ala’ LIZZY BORDEN’s excellent Murderess Metal Road Show, which I watched again on DVD last time.

That sure brought back some Metal memories!

BTW this essential DVD can be had for a mere $9.99 @ Best Buy so no excuses folks.

Alright, Sean, let’s see your pic with you and King Diamond drinking (I hope you do not uncover one, as this may be my only chance to top that Gene Hoglan pic)!!!!! ;)

Thanks for reminding me of this album again and how great they are!together!

  2. I’ve got no pic with King Billy, but I did meet him for 2 minutes in 2000. I do have some great Mikkey Dee encounters. one of them is posted on this blog. Just search “Dokken”.

I also saw the Them tour and they had Flotsam opening!
